Following course 2 (what the Old Testament teaches us about missions), Steef van ‘t Slot developed two more courses that help you discover what the New Testament teaches about it.
The title, like the last one, is The Bible’s Missionary Message – Parts II A & B: New Testament. We learn here about Jesus’- and the Apostles’ missionary practice.
In several ways these New Testament parts are a follow-up to the first part about the Old Testament. Although the course can well be followed on its own, the larger Biblical lines will be much clearer when the first part has been worked through, prior to this one.
These New Testament course parts are meant to sensitize members of the church of Jesus Christ to the way in which missions were executed in the early church. No need to say that this practice differs considerably from what we made of it in the past century. So, what should we do? This course give more insights in these matters.
The course will be taught on invitation, to (house)churches, Bible- or missionary training schools and to groups of – ideally – 10-20 people. The course can be taught in Dutch as well as in English.
Teaching either of these two course parts takes about 25 hours, and can be spread over a twelve-week period, once a week on an evening, or during nine consecutive weeknights plus a Saturday, or during three weekends (Friday evenings and part of the Saturday).
The course material consists of a book (available in Dutch or English) of 124 pages A-5 format, that will be sold against cost-price. The foundation Recruiting for Missions operates on the basis of unsolicited gifts. Only a travel reimbursement is being asked for (the course days times the number of kilometers).
These two course parts form a series of 2 x 25 Bible studies about all New Testament books plus a number of related topics. Most people who followed the course testify, that this study series has given them insights they did not discover previously.
The course is meant for all church members who want to learn more about what the Bible says about early Christian missionary practice, such as missionaries’ home-front committees, pastors, church councils, teams of elders and Bible- or missionary training school students. The course is invaluable for whoever prepares him- or herself to go to the mission field, even if that is only for a short time.
