Steef and Tineke lived in South Africa with their four children for 8 years. In 2006 they came back as a family, but Steef kept on traveling to teach his courses on mission awareness throughout Africa. Now that the children are all out of the house and having families of their own, they have decided to work in missions together again.

On this website you can read about their adventures, news when traveling as a blog, and Steef's articles on Bible based missiology.

Steef van ’t Slot earned his PhD in 2005, with missions theology as study-discipline. That sounds more complicated than it is. This Bible study course simply seeks to answer the question: what does the Old Testament teach us about missions? This course is the first of three: after this, two courses follow about missions in the New Testament.

Therefore the title is The Bible’s Missionary Message – Part I: Old testament. We learn to read the Bible with missionary eyes.

In the first course (World Evangelization) there is a chapter about the Biblical mandate for world missions, but this second course deals with that topic specifically. Is an advantage but not a necessity to have gone through the first course. This second course is just as valuable as a stand-alone.

The course is meant to sensitize the church of Jesus Christ to the immense attention the Bible gives to the necessity to proclaim God to ‘all people, tribes, tongues and nations’ – a much greater attention than we usually give to it!

The course will be taught on invitation, to (house)-churches, Bible- or missionary training schools and to groups of – ideally – 10-20 people. The course can be taught in Dutch as well as in English.

Teaching the course takes about 28 hours and can be spread over a fourteen-week period (once a week), or during ten consecutive weeknights plus a Saturday, or during three weekends (Friday nights and the whole Saturday)

The course material consists of a book (available in Dutch or English) of 124 pages A-5 format, that will be sold for the cost price. The foundation Recruiting for Missions operates on the basis of unsolicited gifts; only a reimbursement of travel costs is asked for (course days times the number of kilometers).

The course is a series of 28 Bible studies about several Old Testament books and a number of related topics. Most people who followed the course testify that this study series gave them insights they had not discovered before.

The course is meant for all church members who want to learn more about what the Bible says about missions, like missionaries’ home-front committees, pastors, church councils, teams of elders and Bible- or missionary training school students. The course is invaluable for them that prepare themselves to go to the mission field, even if that is only for a short time.
